1. Where is your country and living city?

     Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

2. What do you do? (student? major? / worker? position?)

I am a fourth year dental student.

3. What is your country’s interested news lately?

There is a growing number of street beggars taking advantage of generous locals and majority of them were foreigners from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. They looked healthy but are reluctant to look for jobs and taking a short cut by begging. The authorities are urged to take actions against the beggars by relocating them to welfare homes or repatriate the foreigners. I have seen a lot of them by myself, too.

4.  What is your country’s current issues? (political? educational? safe? Anything is fine.)

Let’s talk about brain drain issue in Malaysia. Over the last two decades, Malaysia has been facing high rate of brain drain and most of our talented and skilled employees are leaving to obtain better job opportunities. It cannot be denied that weak economy and low salary provided to the employees are the primary reasons causing their migration to another country with a better prospect. For instance, Malaysians working in their home country only gain one third of the salary of their colleagues working in Singapore due to the high exchange rate of Singapore dollar to Malaysia Ringgit. It is disheartening to find that most of the Malaysians are leaving due to inadequate career prospective and scarce promotional opportunities in Malaysia.

5. How should you do to solve these issues?

Pragmatic initiatives should be taken to provide adequate career prospective and facilities to the professionals as an encouragement in staying in their home country.

The salary structure of the employees should be revised in public sector as well as in private sector.

6. What is your recommend book?

Tuesdays with Morrie

7.  What do you think about your country’s education system? (upsides and downsides)

Education in Malaysia has a structured syllabus that covers the general knowledge for a student. However, our education focuses only on the textbook knowledge, and soft skills development on the other hand, is neglected. Creativity and critical thinking abilities are under-developed as they are not infused in the courses and the schools merely teach the ways to tackle the examination questions correctly, making the students passive recipients of knowledge. The system also focuses on individual achievement less than on team performance resulting in rare opportunities for students to acquire interactive skills. I have come across some articles showing that Malaysian graduates have a lower critical thinking ability when compared to their international counterparts. Employers generally express their dissatisfaction towards the millennials as our local graduates do not possess good teamwork and the ability to think outside of the box. Just my personal opinions and there are still some exclusions, though.

8.  What do you think about Japan? (impression/culture/people/image)

Japanese culture has something that is very attractive, which is consideration towards other people. They pay great attention to small details just to diminish the inconvenience in daily life. I wish to visit Japan someday in the future to indulge myself in the environment and experience the way of living of a Japanese. And I think Japanese is a beautiful language and I want to speak fluent Japanese in the future.

                    I appreciate your cooperation!
